Litchfield Elementary School was a new-build replacement building consisting of a single-story type VB construction built in Litchfield Park, Arizona for the Litchfield Unified School District. The Architect of Record was Orcutt Windslow (now Grace Design Studios). The delivery method was CM@Risk, with my role as the Project Manager responsible for developing the initial schematic design that would honor the much beloved early 20th century Spanish Mission gymnasium that would be demolished to make way for the new gym, administration, and classroom building. To maintain a sense of connection with the historic gymnasium that was to be demolished, I incorporated into my schematic design the careful removal of the school’s 8-foot diameter wood floor logo, which was safely stored away during construction and later mounted to a steel frame and hung within the entryway to the new building.
